Make Sure To Try This In Bangkok
Referred to the rest of the world as โBangkok,โ locals call this city โKrungthepโ or โCity of Angels.โ According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Bangkok holds the record for the longest name of a place. Its official name is โKrungthepmahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahinthara Yutthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udom Ratchaniwet Mahasathan Amonphiman Awatansathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukamprasit.โ Bet you canโt say that fast three times This is roughly translated to: โCity of angels, great city of immortals, the magnificent city of the nine gems, seat of the king, city of royal palaces, home of gods incarnate, erected by Vishvakarman at Indraโs behest.โ Now, thatโs a mouthful!
Bangkok is also the home of the worldโs beloved Red Bull energy drink and also has a weird law about not using the stinky-fruit durian as a weapon! This fun city has so much to offer โ and learn โ and can be a little intimidating at first. But, if youโre only in Bangkok for a short while, there are five things you absolutely must do.
1. Itโs been said many times, โThai street food is incredible!โ And, a trip to Bangkok wouldnโt be complete without exploring it.
So, whether you venture to Chinatown, a night market, a floating market (or all of the above!), you wonโt be disappointed. Thereโs something for everyone. And, if youโre an especially adventurous eater, go to Khao San Road to try their delicacy: scorpion-on-a-stick. Some tourists have compared them to โcheese-flavored chips,โ but you can render your own verdict.
2. Sitting on a long international flight can make for stiff muscles and joints, so be sure to try a Thai massage. You can get one for about $10 in Bangkok, but beware: traditional Thai massages are more
โintenseโ than the ones to which youโre probably accustomed.
3. Bangkok offers nighttime bicycle tours that are phenomenal. See the Wat Arun (temple) at sunset and bring home some amazing pictures for the memory books!
4. It can get pretty steamy inside the temple walls in Thailand. To recuperate, go shopping at the mall! Yes, shopping at the mall. Bangkok boasts some incredibly modern malls filled with high-end stores, and theyโre definitely worth the visit.
5. Originally part of the training regime of the Thai military, Muay Thai is Thailandโs national sport and is oh-so-exciting! Watch (or participate in) a fight at one of Bangkokโs popular stadiums.
